The Palace by Jean Dunand – The Best of BaselWorld 2010
by Idaho on Apr.28, 2010, under Reviews
Last year in Basel, during the BaselWorld 2009 show, I was introduced to Jean Dunand by my friend Frank (Monochrome), Suryia Hill (Sparkle) and Ian Skellern. Truth to be told, I had not taken the time to read about Jean Dunand time pieces and boy did I regret that. Luckily, Thierry Oulevay (owner of Jean [...]

Breitling, Stay True
by Idaho on Apr.28, 2010, under Reviews
Breitling watches are really exceptionally made. Unlike many other quality watches, these timepieces are replicated. A $5,000 authentic Breitling can be purchased, in replica for $49.00. That’s just ridiculous. If you know anything about Breilting, you know what they’re made of. The Breitling name stands for precision and craftsmanship. They have, after all been crafting these fine instruments for a very long time, since 1881, in fact, and they have earned a solid reputation. They’re quality work and excellent quality has opened doors to an admirable relationship with pilots, around the world. Leon Breitling had a clear vision of what he wanted to create…the best made quality chronographs on earth, and he succeeded. The chronograph pocket watches that he developed in his early years are still some of the highest quality timepieces you can find. Knowing a bit of the history of Breitling, and having an appreciation for the brilliant masters that have been involved in this work, should drive you away from Breitling replicas. Stay true and purchase only authentic Bretiling watches, from Breitling or a reputable dealer. It’s tempting to believe you can own a Breitling Navitimer for just $39.99, but it’s not realistic. With Breitling, you’re not paying for the name, you’re purchasing a high quality, precision instrument…and a bit of history.

TAG Heuer’s Tesla Roadster, Races Round The World
by Idaho on Apr.26, 2010, under Reviews
The luxury Swiss watchmaker, TAG Heuer has a deep and undying love for Formula 1 racing. Their respect for this sport has been obvious since their earliest days. This year, that admiration was made apparent with the 2010 TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster road trip. The TAG Heuer 2010 Tesla Roadster began its 12,000 mile journey from Basel, Switzerland, with a celebrity send-off by TAG Heuer Ambassador, Leonardo DiCaprio. The 2010 Tesla is a zero emissions vehicle, and the first of its kind to attempt a trip around the world. This electric start roadster was unveiled at the 2010 Auto Show in Geneva, and is the result of an alliance between legendary Swiss watchmakers and Tesla. The round the world trip will be quite an accomplishment and can be tracked on Twitter. There will be at least three scheduled stops planned in the United States. The 2010 TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster’s blueprint is modeled after a Swiss watch, with a highly unique design for the cabin. The center console of the roadster is built to hold the TAG Heuer concept watch. Catch a peak of the Tesla in Los Angeles, July 29th-30th, in Miami, August 19th, or in New York City, September 2nd-5th.. You’re in for a treat.

If there’s any one company that continues to innovate, it has to be Casio. Their newest Pathfinder/Protrek, the PRW-5000, takes their kitchen-sink feature list and completely rethinks to design with an emphasis on analog hands.

Cartier, Don’t Buy Fake
by Idaho on Apr.24, 2010, under Reviews
Yes, replicas of famous watches, handbags, and even shoes are sold regularly. I even have a beautiful Gucci “replica” satchel. I love it, but when it comes to Swiss made timepieces…I draw the line. You must not forget the hard work of all the brilliant watchmakers. You don’t just create a reputable name, you earn it. That is what Cartier has done.
If you’re shopping for a good deal, you can find Cartier watches on sale or even at an estate sale. These are true vintage timepieces and sought after by collectors. There is no shame in purchasing a pre-owned Cartier. The point is that it be real and authentic. The styles of Cartier are timeless. Many of their designs from yesterday have the same classic, characteristics. The elegant features and fine craftsmanship hasn’t changed over the years, and that’s why Cartier is a legendary designer. From their jewelry creations to their watches…Cartier is exceptional. Even if you can’t afford the more expensive Cartier watches, there are pieces in the collection budgeted for you, and they are genuine Cartier. Go for a classic watch that you can wear for years and you won’t go wrong. Cartier is a great name…and behind that name, quality.

Omega Aqua Terra, Exceptional
by Idaho on Apr.21, 2010, under Reviews
Omega, makers of exceptional Swiss timepieces, is famous for their professional watches. Omega’s women’s collections are fabulous. These ladies watches are stylish, well-made, and really functional. I love the look of the Aqua Terra Quartz women’s watch by Omega. This ladies watch has it all…looks, precision, and elegance. The 231.10.20.61.55.001 Aqua Terra is from Omega’s Seamaster line. The Seamaster is a line of men’s and women’s professionally constructed timepieces. This women’s version is stunning. It has a bright silver dial, with silver, arrow shaped hour and minute arms. The date window is placed at the 3 o’clock position and the hours are marked by brilliant round cut diamonds! The dial is covered by a sapphire crystal that is highly scratch resistant. The women’s Seamaster is encased in stainless-steel and is water resistant to 550 feet. This beautiful timepiece won’t let you down. It has a 20 month batter reserve and is equipped with an indicator to let you know when the battery life is coming to an end. The Aqau Terra Quartz is a Swiss made watch. It comes with the Omega Quartz precision caliber 1424 movement. Other versions come with a black face, but I much prefer this steel on steel look. It’s striking, it’s sophisticated…it’s Omega!

Movado Artists Collection
by Idaho on Apr.20, 2010, under Reviews
Here’s a new spin on an old favorite, the Movado Artists Collection. Have you heard about this? Movado has collaborated with super-talented graphic artist Kenny Scharf, who has produced these amazingly beautiful creations. Each one of these timepieces is traditional Movado excellence. On the inside, all Swiss made and the quality that you’ve come to expect from this watch brand, but these are fun and funky on the outside. One of my favorites is Kenny Scharf’s “On Time”. The On Time watch is a 3 dimensional yellow and green accented star, sitting atop a sweeping red and black background. The Movado dot, in this rendition is at all 4 quarters of the watch, and colored as the star. The oversized dial is encased in a brushed stainless-steel and this multi colored graphic dial design is paired with a deep black leather strap. Each of these artistic creations by Movado (and Kenny Scharf) is numbered individually. Adding to their collectors appeal is the fact that this design is a highly limited edition…only 125 of these pieces will be produced. There are 6 different versions of the Artists Collection, each with a limited edition of 125, each with Kenny’s individual take on time, and each only available for a short time. Help celebrate Movado’s undying dedication to art.

Tag Heuer Tiger Wood Watch
by Idaho on Apr.20, 2010, under Reviews
Tag Heuer can’t be beat for precision and performance. This brand has been a reliable choice for over 150 years and counting. The innovation hasn’t slowed down and the watches just keep getting better and better. The Tag Heuer professional Golf Men’s watch is the first watch ever created, specifically with a golfer’s needs in mind. Constructed of special, materials makes this watch light weight and comfortable. Its ergonomic design means that it fits you like a glove and will never feel cumbersome or be an excuse to mess up your swing. The Tiger Woods edition has a Titanium bezel and a case thickness of just 10.6 mm. making it a very thin, sleek, and strong watch. The dial is grey and a square shape and has the essential scratch resistant sapphire crystal. This men’s golf watch has a stationary bezel function, and a date window at the 6 o’clock setting. The strap is a black, self adjusting rubber…also thin and comfortable. The Tag Heuer Tiger Woods Golf watch is all Swiss movement, and water resistant to 165 feet. In addition to taking all the needs of a professional golfer into account, Tag Heuer has designed a really handsome timepiece. Yes, it’s functional, but it’s also stylish and affordable. You can look good, even when your swing isn’t up to par.
